NIC INAUGURATES TWO DEGREE PROGRAMMES IN GRANDURE

The grand inauguration of the degree programmes; Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Fashion Design and Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Interior Architecture offered by the Design School of NIBM took place on 14 Oct. 2019 at the National Innovation Centre (NIC) with the auspices of Mr. Rohan Prithee Viraj Perera – the Chairman of NIBM, Dr. D M A Kulasooriay – the Director General of NIBM, Mr. Samira Wijayasiri – Head School of Design and School of Languages. The presence of the two Course Director; Ms. Dilani Gunesekera, Ms. Nishadi Fernando, members of the faculty and Ms. Dammika Dangalla – Asst. Director Programmes also graced the occasion. The audience for the occasion consisted of the newly enrolled undergraduates for the two programmes and their parents. The Director General of NIBM Dr. D M A Kulasooriay in his speech at the occasion highlighted the importance of ‘design thinking’ in the contemporary world, and mentioned that it is the designers who drive the world forward through their creativity. He also mentioned that NIBM always strives to offer nothing but the best higher education to the undergraduates in Sri Lanka, and that NIBM has undertaken the responsibility to produce the business leaders and thinkers of the next generation to the world. To achieve this NIBM has partnered with some of the most globally recognized universities such as; the Coventry University of UK, the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Malaysia, and University Technology Malaysia (UTM) he further mentioned. 

Inauguration of the two degree programmes marks a significant juncture of both NIBM and NIC as the event marks a significant growth in the number of students enrolled for the degree programmes offered by NIC in Collaboration with Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Malaysia. With the new intake in BA (Hons.) in Fashion Design, NIC now runs 7 such degree programmes since its inception in October 2017, and the third batch of BA (Hons.) in Interior Architecture. With an array of other degree programmes offered in Humanities and Languages, NIC has now become a beacon in the higher education sector in Sri Lanka for the students who yearn to tread in a different pathway of higher education to achieve their dreams for success to win the world.
