The BSc (Honours) Psychology and Counselling, awarded by Coventry University is designed for students with a particular interest in counselling and the influence of psychology on counselling practice. The students will focus on the relationship between theoretical aspect of psychology and counselling and the practical application of the theory in a wider social, cultural, economic, and international context.

Entry Requirements

For entry into Year 1:

  • Those who have completed G.C.E A/L examination in Arts, Biology stream with three simple passes.

  • It is mandatory that the candidate has obtained at least an ‘S’ pass for Mathematics and English for GCE Ordinary Level Examination

OR

  • Have obtained passes on International Foundation Course or London O/Ls

  • Those who have completed a Certificate course/ Advanced Certificate course in Psychology from a recognized institution.

  • Those who have more than 6 months of professional experience in a related field. (Upon submitting proof of work experience)

For entry into Year 2 – BSc (Hons) in Psychology & Counselling:

  • For entry to year 2 applicants will have successfully completed the NIBM Advanced Diploma in Psychology or Counselling.

  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate an adequate proficiency in English and may be assessed during the induction phase of the course. Normally the requirement for entry to year 2 of the course is a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent), and for entry to year 3 a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (or equivalent). For those who do not score adequate marks on the IELTS (or its equivalent) will have to attend sessions on language improvement conducted by the School of Languages.Applicants with non-standard entry qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis in consultation with the Coventry University Link Tutor.

For entry into Year 3 – BSc (Hons) in Psychology & Counselling:

  • For entry to year 3 of the course, the applicants will have to successfully complete NIBM Higher National Diploma in Psychology and Counselling.

OR

  • A candidate who wishes a lateral entry should have completed an equivalent qualification to the Higher National Diploma of NIBM. (upon the validation of the Diploma by Coventry)

  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate an adequate proficiency in English and may be assessed during the induction phase of the course. Normally the requirement for entry to year 2 of the course is a minimum overall IELTS score of 6.0 (or equivalent), and for entry to year 3 a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (or equivalent). For those who do not score adequate marks on the IELTS (or its equivalent) will have to attend sessions on language improvement conducted by the School of Languages.

  • Applicants with non-standard entry qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis in consultation with the Coventry University Link Tutor.

  • Year 3 – BSc (Hons) Psychology and Counselling
    Course Fee: LKR 850,000 + Registration Fee: LKR 8,000
